Newspaper Notes

-Broadsheet should have 3 or more stories on the front of it.
-Tabloid is smaller in format, most tabloids are a broadsheet turn sideways, could have 2 or less stories on the front of the page.
-News Magazine, no stories on the front, and will have a glossy cover

Front Pages of the World

1) What is your favorite newspaper front page. Why?

     This is my favorite newspaper cover because, first of all I like space and I find it amazing that we found planets that could be just right for life, and second of all because this talks about the problem we have here in the U.S. and hope still remains for us that we will find the suspects and the missing people.

2) What is your favorite headline from the newspaper?Why are you interested in it? 

My favorite headline of this news paper is "Just Right For Life", because again I like space and I find it pretty amazing we found two planets like Earth.

3) How many stories are on he front page of your favorite?

Nine

4) What do you notice that all newspaper front pages have in common? Look at the design, size of photo, size of story text, etc.

Almost every single one either talking about the Boston marathon bombing, the Waco fertilizer plant explosion, or both. They also have the pictures of two suspects of the Boston bombing, and every single one of them is talking about a problem.

5) What things vary on the front pages of different newspapers? Look at the design, size of photos, size of headlines, etc.   

Many of the stories have different fonts in their title, their headlines, their writings and advertisements.

Dog can not get enough bad luck
1) Marley,the dog, is sad and lonely because no on e is choosing to adopt him from the animal shelter in Austin, TX. Unluckily for Marley no one wants to be him so they threw him out the next day and he was eaten by hungry rabbits.

        - The lighting is coming behind the photographer and it highlights the drool

Lenses and Photography Vocabulary

Finish the following sentences ( in what type of situation would you use these types of lenses)

1) I would use a telephoto lens to...
shoot something that is far from me, like if I am watching a football game I could use the lens to get a good picture.

2) I would use a prime lens to...
shoot pictures when I'm indoors, for example if there was a big party going on and I needed pictures I would use that type of lens.

3) I would use a wide-angle lens to...
shoot pictures that show a lot of things happening at once in the same place and getting almost all of them, for example if there was a football game and a party happening on the field I could use the wide-angle lens for this situation.

Define each term below, and write a sentence that explains how it relates to taking better photos. 

1) Depth of Field (Shallow and Wide)- the including of objects in the foreground, middle ground, and background. This makes the photo better by showing everything in the photo from the closest object to the farthest object.

2) Light  (Angle and Intensity)- how much light there is in the photo. This makes a photo better by letting light be there when it is needed.

3) Shadows- how much shade there is in the photo. Th makes the photo better by letting shade in when ti is needed.

4) Diffusion- how much you leave the subject with enough space. This makes the photo better by seeing the subject there without any distractions.

5) Exposure- how much you expose a photo. This makes the photo better by adding one or meow interesting subjects in the photo.

6) Aperture (F-Stop)- adds dimension to a photograph by blurring a background or brings everything in focus. This makes a photo look better by putting the main subject in focus while everything else is in blur.

7) Shutter Speed-creates by freezing action or blurring motion. This makes a photo look better by showing us a photo that stops time.

8) ISO-the level of sensitivity in the camera available to light. This makes the camera better buy adding the right amount of light to a photo.

     I think that the story of North Koreas nuclear war with South Korea best follows the value of conflict, because the story talks about a nuclear war that could cause the death of thousands.

     I think that the story of the train killing a person is an Proximity story. I think this is an proximity  story because it has happen close yesterday night, just east of Manchaca road.

     I think that the story of the new porcupine species is a human interest story. I think this because this is a new species and it has never been seen before, it is covered in dark brown spines with reddish tips, and it catches our eyes of interest.

 I think that this story best follows the value of timeliness. I think this because this story was just given out at 10:33 a.m. which makes it new.


Obama Hosts 12 Republican Senators For Dinner
I think that this story is best known as a prominence story. I believe this is a prominence story because it would be more important for the president to host a dinner party than a school teacher hosting a party for children.


One Dead, One Injured in East Austin Shooting
I think the story of the Austin shooting follows the value of impact. This must be impact because this had effected not only the injured and the dead but they also effect their families, friends, cops, and the ones that shoot them.


Studies Of Babies Did Not Disclose Risks, U.S. Finds
I believe this story is a novelty story. I believe this story is a novelty story because these babies are at a risk of blindness and or death.

2) I saw different places of the whorl minus anywhere it is cold. But I saw pictures of trees, rain, bodies of water, and mountains. And I think that all photos are to good to pick with one is the best.

     2) This website showed me some of the most astonishing images of 2012, and they are astonishing. Some of these pictures aren't even on Earth, they can be in space, sea, and sky and it is simply unbelievable. Some of my favorite ones are of space, hurricane Isaac, the two soldiers hidden, a man hidden in a panda photo, of fireworks, and the gun underwater.
     3) I learned that these photographs can change how you see the world and beyond and open your mind to something else.

Magazines Part II

     1) Early Magazine Covers-The earliest magazine covers weren't what we have right now, these mid 1700 magazines were much different than what we have now. They tended to only provide the title and publication data in early magazines. Magazine pictures could be seen telling us that they might be saying they are the foundation of pillars , the unifying arch, the source, and fountain, the life, and the instructor of there families

     2) The Poster Cover- The dominate magazine field could be found from the 1890's to the 1960's. The poster cover product so many memorable covers. Many outstanding professional illustrators learned their craft from other artistic posters. "There are no cover lines, or themes announced, and the image generally is not covered by a logo." Said Johnson and Prijatel.

     3) Pictures Married to Type- These magic whose stunning covers left an  imprint during the 20th century. Other magazines relied heavily on cover lines to draw readers inside in a more definite way then the cover of art could accomplish.

     4) In The Forest of Words- This type of magazine is irregular, and has many creative byways. There has been a general movement of magazine covers away from the artistic poster cover and go toward covers that have more intense photography with an a amazingly large number of vivid cover lines.

Magazine Tips


1) Arousing curiosity ( that's to pull the casual glancer in)
2) Never trim a printout, mount it beautifully and display it with its alternates on the finely polished surface of the conference-room table
3) Check out the suggestions about the four types sizes. A magazine is first and foremost a physical product so experiment with is as such to make sure to make the most of its capabilities
4) Gather copies of what your targets might be reading including your competition of course. Mock up an executive's in-box or tabletop arrangement in some way and place yours among them
5) Intellectually stimulating, interesting (thats to promise benefits)

Choice Sheets

     Which publication will you want to join next year, Newspaper, Yearbook, or Commercial Photography?

     I don't really know which publication I want to be in, I am conflicted between Newspaper and Yearbook. They both sound fun, and I really do want to be in one of those classes but I don't know which one I should choose. Hopefully next year I get the class that will make me happy, a class that I will love.

Rules Of Photography And Caption Review II

Vocabulary-

Depth of Field (shallow and wide)-
Light (angel and intensity)- The presence of light
Shadows- The absence of light, they impact photography
Diffusion- softening  or blocking of the light, changing the intensity of the light
Exposure- to light, to dark, or perfect to our eyes

Aperture (f- stop)- is about the lens, and its how big or small the opening is on the inside, you have complete control over the aperture.
Shutter speed- how fast the camera opens and closes letting light in to the sensor, you have complete control over the shutter speed.
ISO- how sensitive the sensor is to light,you have complete control over the ISO, grain

Types of lenses

Telephoto- zoom it in and get closer
Prime- no zooming, they are small and you can't adjust them
Wide Angle-takes wider photos

shallow = big opening
the smaller the F-stop the more amount of light enters
shutter speed is what it takes to stop action
moving = shutter speed must be higher
not moving = shutter speed must be lower
when you increase ISO more grains will appear
aperture big opening = more light
aperture small opening = less light
